| took a nice and long shower in new york's largest storm thus far this year...on a bike from midtown to upper west side. haha... it felt kinda nice actually. what's the likely hood that this will happen again? (well, not counting doing so on purpose.)
anyway, i guess this storm anounces the coming of the summer. it's shorts and t-shirt time of the year again. =)

This is a class of gene regulatory protein that binds to DNA to alter its transcription. Named "leucine zipper" by scientists because its structure and interaction with the DNA resembles a clothespin on a clothesline. But I really don't see how this protein relates to a "zipper" at all. I guess they just cannot find a better name for it.
If the scientist who determined the structure of this class of protein have had more exposure to asian cultures, undoubtedly he'll name it the "leucine chopsticks," which is a name appropriate both for its appearance and its binding mechanism. although the picture shown would be an incorrect way to use the chopsticks.. but that's another story.
